How Can the Modern Witch Tarot Guide Your Life?
Tarot has evolved.
Ten years ago you would not have seen diversity in gender, race, or much of anything else in a Tarot deck. Today, diversity is a key to a deck’s success.
One of those decks that revels in 21st Century life is the Modern Witch Tarot. Whether you self-identify as a witch or not isn’t important. That you draw a card and see yourself in it – that’s the magic.
Nuts and Bolts of the Modern Witch Tarot
The Modern Witch Tarot deck is housed in a two-piece heavy container that opens top-to-bottom, easily sliding open. Included in the box is a small, useable, more-than-little-white-book. In the book you’ll find card meanings along with a robust collection of spreads. The box is designed with aesthetics in mind, and will look great wherever you plan on displaying it.
The illustrations are a contemporary take on the traditional Rider-Waite-Smith (RWS) Tarot, in that it depicts scenes from real life with people who look like the world around us. Think Spandex, mobile phones, and motorcycles.
One of my favorite cards – because it reflects contemporary life is the 8 of Pentacles. Here, we see an artist using a stylus and tablet to create her art – not an old-fashioned easel and oils. Plus, she’s not tucked away in a forest – look outside her window and you can see that she’s part of a vibrant city scene.
Even though my age is far outside that of the women pictured in this deck, I appreciate that several cards – including this 8 of Pentacles – reflects me. I’m an avid iPhonographer and use dozens of iOS apps to edit my images. I totally relate to the stylus-wielding artist.
Although the limited edition (1,111 copies) of the deck is sold out, you can still purchase the standard edition from your local metaphysical shop, Amazon, or for those in the U.K., at the Liminal11 website. While you’re at Liminal11, poke around – they’re creating some of the most cutting edge Tarot books and decks on the market.
