Don’t Forget the Men of Tarot and Divination
As two of my best pals are Tarot/Rune guys, I know how hard it can be to feel a part of Tarot’s women-centric community. We’ve all seen the ongoing debates and protests around racism, and we do see bleed-over into the Tarot community when it comes to including cards that are racially diverse. But we don’t hear much about Tarot from a man’s perspective.
While Fred West (@fred_punkofprophecy) and I agree on a lot of cards, we definitely have our own take; partly because of life experience, partly age, and partly gender. We see the world through gender-specific eyes, and that (I think) shows up in how we approach reading the cards.
To that end, I went on an Insta search to acquaint myself with more Tarot men. I ended up with a list of guys I think are interesting, compassionate, and are bringing some new approaches to Tarot. If you’d like to expand your Tarot world, check out these readers. Their Insta handles:
@wyrdgift1 – John is primarily a rune reader, but he delves into Tarot as well. He writes for the Cartomancer Magazine
@fred_punkofprophecy – Fred has read Tarot about as long as I have (eons!)
@serge_pirotte – reads Marseilles and Lenormand and brings the most amazing interpretations to the cards
@lemniscate_logic_ James Feeney does a lot of interesting spreads and also has a YouTube channel
@readingtimewithquinn Quinn Smith also has a YouTube channel and an Etsy store
@stevenbrightuk – Steven has a book and deck out and creates beautiful videos for his daily reads. He is also half of the Esotoracle team (British oracle magazine)
@twoofowls – Chase does general energy readings most weeks
@tarotwithjoe – Joe Monteleone does readings for the collective, lots of IG lives/IGTV
@tarotwithandrew – Angel channeler – you’ll see that he always uses pink as his brand
@el_hermit – Francisquito does both Tarot and astrology on his IG account
@jameshimm – James Himm Mitchell is a Tarot & Lenormand reader with a YouTube channel
@mitchellosborn Mitchell Osborn is active on both IG and FB. He does FB lives every week. In addition to working with people, Mitchell works with animals who are on either the physical or spiritual plane.
@theknaveofswords – Dmitry Korolev Lenormand reader with a YouTube channel
@mantis_tarot – Mantis is a Tarot author, teacher, and reader
@sigiltarotmagick – Simon teams with Maia for sigil creation and Tarot readings using the DruidCraft Tarot
@elgoliathtarotdeck – Beautiful black and white deck, great for shadow work
@queercosmos – Astrology author, posts weekly horoscopes
@brendan.ellis.williams – Tarot reader, author
If you know more men who are Tarot readers or practice other forms of divination, please let me know as I’m going to continue building this list.
Tarot in July
Shuffle, cut and draw Cards 1-4 from the top of the deck. Card 5 is the card on the bottom of the deck.
Card 1: What can I expect from this month?
Card 2: What energy do I need to support my best self this month?
Card 3: In what way can I be a beacon of hope and inspiration for others?
Card 4: In what way do I need to push out of my comfort zone?
Card 5: What is the Foundational Energy of the month?
It’s funny (ironic?) that my Foundational Energy is the High Priestess, as I’m meditating daily to create a new book proposal.
In the Tarot Community
Liminal11 (Modern Witch Tarot) created an interesting spread based around the Wheel of the Year. You can find my take on it here. I’m especially intrigued by living/planning in six week increments.
Interview with Mystic Mondays Tarot – I’m such a push-over for a bright, colorful deck. This one is rapidly becoming my go-to.
Ever wonder what’s in those 7 cups? In this post I look at the card from six different decks, asking the question – what’s in YOUR cups?
I loved reading Christiana Gaudet’s blog post on finding a theme in a reading. The post includes an exercise on how to look at the cards and pull out the theme. Good stuff here.
Theresa Reed (The Tarot Lady) had Melissa Cynova on her Podcast #175, which was all about reading for friends, family, and loved ones. Melissa has a hard-and-fast rule – definitely worth a listen.
On a personal note, I finally got a copy of El Goliath Tarot. I’ve wanted this deck for months, but had to wait for the second edition. The deck is SO not me as it’s black and white, but I was mesmerized by the imagery. It’s truly a shadow work deck. More as I work with it.
Until next time,
Nancy
